Do you want to know how to start new habits? Habits can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what kind of habits they
are. They can also seem to be very powerful and hard to get rid of. It is not as hard as you may think, but it can take some time before you turn things you start doing into a regular thing (a habit).
If you do not know how to start new habits until now I promise you that you will know in about 2-3 minutes :o)
Sounds good? Ok let`s go then!
What is the Best Way to Start New Habits?
The answer to how you start a new habit is simple.
You simply build up your habbit until it becomes stronger!
This is a technique that you can use for whatever habits you want to implement in your life and below I will give you an example with the habit of working out regularly.
Take working out for example. Let`s say you want to start working out 3 times a week. You want to do it on monday, wednesday and friday.
So you go to the gym on monday but on wednesday you feel tired and say to yourself that you going to stay home and rest this day… You think to yourself I do it next wednesday… this is a BIG MISTAKE!
What you really do here is building a habit of “giving up on your habit creation”
Everytime you do this the habbit of quiting gets stronger.
But if you go to the gym no matter what… even if you are really tired… Then you build up your new habit (that you want) to become stronger.
In the beginning it will be hard to get a new habit… But if you stick to your plan and carry through the first, second and third month…
After this you wont even think about going to the gym (or what ever habit you want to get) You will just do it!
Everytime you do something no matter if you feel like it or not you will build up your habit to get stronger and stronger.
It is just like the muscles you train in the gym, they will get a little bit stronger every time that you work out… But just a little bit every time…
But many small changes will by time add up to a BIG change!
Just remember that the same goes for everytime that you not carry through with your new habit… Everytime that you “skip” doing it because of some excuse you make up for yourself your habbit of “quitting” will get stronger.
Now you know how to start new habits!
It really is this simple and atleast I do not know of some better way of making a new habbit. If you know of another way that is better or atleast equally good please share it with us in the comment section.
hope this helps!

It’s funny, I think people generally associate habits as being bad, but of course they can be greatly good as well.
Eating habits can easily go either way. I get into really good habits of eating and I’ll become increasingly more healthy. But then you get the odd day where you say, I’ll just have a little bit of this treat or that treat, and because it’s just a little you maybe think it’s ok to do regularly… and then it just starts getting away from you and becomes that bad habit that you do all the time.
On the flip side, I do have a gym habit, so that helps!

Haha thats great Tony! Me to have a gym habit and I eat good everyday exept one day the whole week and that day is saturday. That is my “cheatday” But it actually helps me to eat good the rest of the week. Maybe you should try that? :o)

Hello John,
In life it really is true that keeping it simple keeps us engaged.
I really appreciate how in this post you are encouraging us to remember not to clutter things up when trying to establish a new habit. Keeping true to ourselves and honoring our decisions and just making sure even if we are tired we do it anyway makes perfect sense when establishing that new habit and routine of working out.
Do you think that having this mindset could also help a person, say stop smoking? I’m not a smoker, but sadly I have a son who is and I sure wish he could quit this habit that is a health threat.
Thanks for the info.

Hello Linda. Yes many times keping it simple is best.
of course you can change any habit like this!
It is the mind that should control the body and NOT the other way around!
hope that helps

Hey John!
I could do with starting some new habits myself because I’m tired of the old ones that aren’t helping to improve my life 🙁 lol.
I see where you’re coming from now, on learning to develop new habits. I guess it’s kinda like doing certain tasks in the mornings such as brushing teeth and washing our faces etc. We do it without even thinking about it, just like driving a car too.
Thanks for the article and I will remember your advice 🙂

Hello Neil! Exactly after a while when you start a new habit you just do it and don´t even think about it!

Hello John. Your topic is really important for everybody who would like to stop smoking or move from coach and do something valuable for themselves and humanity.
It is more easy to tell compare with doing it.
Nevertheless, we see so many people who achieved goals, which at first seemed big as mountains.
It happened that these people had goals. To achieve them, we need to form habits. Habits keep us on track.
I heard that to form right habit, takes 21 day.
I think that people can try from small things and latter on , move to creation of habits, which form our behavior and lead to better future.
All the best, Nemira.

Thanks Nemira glad you liked it! Yes habits are a very important subject. Intresting what you say about that it takes 21 days to form a habit, I have never heard about that before but it sounds like a resonable time period.
All the best to you!

Both bad habits and good habits are exactly that: a learned habit. Habits, as far as I understand, are formed in our subconscious mind. That’s how we’re able to do things without thinking.
our post is spot on. You almost have to force yourself – body and mind – into a new habit as the desire to resist is merely a result of the old habit you want to get rid of; like procrastinating with going to the gym, to use your example.
Great post. Thanks for sharing this.

Hello,
This is article is so true. Any type of habit either trying to start or trying to break can be very hard on people.”Every-time you skip” you really are breaking your habit and it becomes a psychological thing that can be very hard to stop. I like to say “stay consistent”, which in a way can be defined as a habit. Best of luck on your journey.

Thank you Rob! Exactly! That is how it works! Simple but in the same way hard :

Habits are everything! Almost everything we do on a daily basis derives from some sort of learned repetitive behaviour we call habits. It’s true that people have the GOOD and the BAD habits. I smoke, unfortunately. It’s definitely become an awful habit. Quitting and not having a cigarette everyday can be a new habit. I just have to start with that one cigarette, hahaha. Thanks for the informative post mate 🙂

You are absolutely right man! When someone knows how things work it becomes VERY possible to do the things you like with that subject… you know about your bad habit and you also know how to stop it… Create a new one… The power of the mind is strong Michael…
Thank you for your comment. /John

I am definitely guilty of interfering with the formation of a new habit by coming up with an excuse not to do it, such as feeling tired, stressed, or simply not feeling like it. I think most of us have done that at some point. Creating a habit is a challenge in the beginning because sometimes you just have to force yourself to do it.
John says
I believe you are right it really is that simple

Hey John,
Well I have to say that what you say you do. Your title “keep it simple, no bs, no ns” is very accurate. Your post are informative and straight to the point. Also like that you have reviewed tons of “online money making” programs. Amazing how many are “fake” Great job spotting them and letting people know. And by the way, your English is great!! I would know since I’m from the US…lol. Best wishes with all your success.

Hello,
I am happy because I finally found a website where I can find about how to create new habits! You’re right only being persistent in your new habits will make you develop them. If you just start one day and that you stop during 15 days, it’s not a proper habit. However, I was curious about how you fight bad habits and replace them with good ones? Thanks!
LDStudio says
Hi John, you’re right, the best way to simply get used to doing something is to repeat it over, and over, and over again. I suppose that’s how we all got into the habit of getting out of bed, brushing our teeth, showering and getting dressed every morning (at least for some of us!) So, building up the habit is natural with repetition, which is why I believe anyone can change their (bad) habits, or create new good ones if they just give it solid effort.
