Instagram automation tools for follow/unfollow are being shut down one by one and even worse, your account risk being banned. That is not something you want.
You need to know that there are great legit tools that can help you out with Instagram though, for example telling you what time is the best to post, schedule posts, which of your followers you should engage with, etc.

Lead Friend is a brand new launch that came out online at the end of February (2017). Below is the promo video for the product:

How does it work?
First of all, you need to sign up for the $1 5-day trial, you are going to have to leave all of your credit card details for this… Then you set up your account on what type of market you want to target, your competitors, keywords and such.
When you have done all that the program will start to work on its own and auto like, auto comment, auto follow, auto unfollow and so on…

This one gives you the same functions as above + the auto comment and auto dm (to new follower) + a free Twitter account

This one gives you the same as the 2 previous ones but also allows you to have 2 Instagram accounts connected to the program instead of only 1. + it gives you a bonus of 500 new followers per month
The VIP membership – $137 per month
This one has the same basic functions as the ones above but it allows you to connect up to 5 Instagram accounts and also auto follow up DMs + it gives you 1000 new followers per month and 500 new likes per post per month

Is Lead Friend a Scam?
So, is Lead Friend a scam or not? Well, to be honest, I can not say that it is, however, I have found some red flags that I see that no other reviews are talking about. The reason for that is most likely because they have partnered up with the program, that means that they are getting paid to promote the program.
That leads us to:
What most reviews are NOT telling You!
Red flag 1: Only Creditcard!
You can pay with the “secure” payment form…
Then when I was looking on that “secure” form it didn´t look secure at all! I cannot even see a secure payment logo or something even suggesting this form would be safe…
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn´t secure payment forms normally look a little different than this one? (See screenshot below)
Red flag 2: No PayPal!
Ok, first of all, there is no PayPal payment option, that my friend is never a good sign as PayPal are very strict on who they work with, they do not work with “shady” businesses.
Also, (in case you didn´t know) whenever you purchase something using PayPal you can get your money back very easy, so whenever you see a company not using it you should do some more research.
This leads us to the next red flag…

Red flag 3: No refund!
Keep in mind that there is no refund to get if you would want to get your money back, you can cancel your membership at any time though, however you can only do that before a new monthly payment have been debited from your credit card.
Only 5 day $1 trial.. That means you are most likely not be able to cancel your monthly subscription before you start paying for the first month.
Red flag 4: Only an email address for support!
Only an email address if you want to cancel. That is a big red flag (at least for me)!
Normally there should be a more easy way to cancel your subscription like a simple unsubscribe button for example, at the very least a live chat or something.
Red flag 5: You NEED to give up your Instagram login info!
Why do they need your login details to Instagram? They explain that it is needed to establish a connection and access the API. That might be true of course, however with the red flags above it just strengthens the “insecure” overall feeling about this program…
I don´t know about you but I would NOT give away my login details to anyone if I didn´t trust them 100%

How´s the support?
As mentioned above it is not good at all, only 1 email address. Sure, it might be the case that they are answering very fast (24/7 like they claim) and solve your queries right away, however I much rather prefer a live chat and as mentioned above… and a more “reliable” way to cancel your membership manually yourself without having to wait for an answer from an email…

- Can potentially save you a lot of time
The bad
- No PayPal
- Bad support
- No refund
- Questionable “secure” payment
- VERY Expensive (at least compared to its competitors)
Why you should (or should NOT) buy Lead Friend?
I would have told you to take the risk if I knew that there are no other options out there, however there is actually a way cheaper option like I mentioned above that also allows you to use PayPal (so you can be sure it isn´t anything fishy about it) and also allows you to handle up to 5 accounts without having to pay the VERY expensive cost as LeadFriend requires for that service.
Below you got 2 other alternatives that I would strongly recommend you to look at first as you might find them more interesting for you in more than one way.

Ok, I think I have made my point pretty clear on this one, I simply cannot recommend a product that I see as potentially harmful to you, I mean who knows what they are doing with your credit card information…
I don´t say it is a scam and there is a possibility that I change the rating in the future, maybe to a higher but it can also be to a lower.
For now, I would, however, recommend that you don´t give up your credit card info as you never know.
Also, why pay more for a service when you can get exactly the same service (or even better) for a cheaper price and also from a place that offers you 100% secure payment options and also the ability to get a refund easily?
You are a smart person so I am sure you won´t do that 🙂

Hey John thanks for sharing this article, its going to save a lot of people money and stress by not bothering with this Lead Friend opportunity, because just like you highlight, i cannot trust a system that has questionable security, while also not having Paypal, and also for the expense i really would expect a high level of customer service, but hey some people are literally trying to take people for a ride with this one i feel.

I’m hearing about Lead Friends for the first time and I really would like to comment you for the good job you have done in unveiling this potentially harmful program. When I watched the promotional video, I kept on asking myself, why are they using cartoons instead of a real people in their video? If they can’t reveal the owners of their system and how to reach them directly in case of any issues, then to me this is a big NO!

The fact that they don’t have a paypal link, don’t have a secure site and don’t provide customer support or refunds is a huge red flag for me.

Nice review of Lead Friend… If what you say about Lead Friend is true then your review is a real eye opener. Instagram is huge right now and therefore is great marketing tool to make some money. Just want to clarify a few things with the software. In your review you mentioned a $1 trial for 5 days… yet, the Y/T video indicates a Free 10 day trial. Also, you mentioned no paypal purchases can be made… and yet again, the Y/T video says that Lead Friend pays their affiliates through paypal. Interesting!!

I came across your article whilst doing some research into online marketing and found it very interesting. I am looking into branching into Instagram for the first time and didn’t even realise you could buy software like this so it has been a great eye opener. The RED FLAG section is of most interest and has reminded me to look a little deeper before reaching for the credit card. I wanted to shed some light on my experience with Leadfriend. As a disclaimer, I am an affiliate and I am also a client. As someone that was looking to build a brand on IG, I didn’t experience the issues that you described as red flags. Also, the owner of Leadfriend is Chris Costello. I have speak to him freely on FB messenger and in his FB group as well. Very approachable and cares about the process. In regards to customer service, you are correct that it is all done by email but their response is quick. The only reason Ive needed to contact them is to change my targeted keyword hashtags to target my audience a little more refined.
Your assessment looking from an outside perspective is unfortunate. Ive used it for one month so far and Im up 552 targeted followers and my analytics show progress. Im getting leads and I can prove that too. My IG account is misteralchemist and Im an absolute newbie at IG and Im getting these results.
Also, your alternative for Leadfriend is Instaeasy and you gave them a great score. Yet your viewers cant utilize this service because they are shut down…just like Instagress. I suggest we talk sometime and I can get Chris the owner of Leadfriend on a call three way call with you or anyone else interested in Leadfriend.

LadFriend is working hard on upcoming accounts of young Instagram users.
They want quick response and fast payments without secure payment methods.
They just tried to fool my son of 15 years so I had a email conversation with the “Support specialist” on their sight, without knowing who I really was talking to. They don’t answer any questions on how they secure their customers information and credit card information.
This is a SCAM!
With the information you give them they can not only empty your credit card account or sell the information for others to do it. They can also hi-jack your identity and become you…. For bying stuff, get a passport or new identity.

Just wanted to say that I use Lead Friend, and they are awesome! The people are super cool and funny. We are like one big family. I am very happy with Lead Friend and so are my clients. Also I know that we use PayPal because that is how my friend signed up. Maybe you need to be on the inside to know these things. But Good looking out, you did right a great review.
Not really considering this. Five red flags for me are more than enough. I don’t really mind about the refund as most programs do not offer one. My concern is in regards to the mode of payment. I mean, no Paypal? That should tell you something about how secure the site is. It’s pretty costly too.

I think you are right John, that Lead Friend is a total scam, and boy the monthly packages are pricey for what you actually get. I agree, that the payment set up is NOT secure at all, as well as why would you want to give them your login information? I smell scam that is for sure. I believe that with a free trial, you should get it for free, without having to put in credit card info. Then after the 5 days, you have to pay or you are done. Seems simple enough to me!
I agree that they should have a Paypal service but they are awesome. My account has been growing like crazy. They email me back so fast and make any updates of changes that I ask them to make. They are a pretty good service and at a great price. There are services out there that want $500 for social media management!!! I’m not paying that but I want the traffic so I have to pay something. LeadFriend is pretty reliable so you better catch them before their prices go up!
Thank you for your comment, yes I know that there are even more expensive services out there than lead friend, however there are also LESS expensive options, I mean 5 accounts for $130 per month, there are services that are just as good and let you manage UNLIMITED accounts for $30 per month or even a one time payment of under $100 and you got the service for the rest of your life… I have provided a both cheaper and safer (as it got PayPal and a money back guarantee) in the review above.

Thanks for putting that together to ensure people really doublecheck before they sign up. There are ways to actually build out Instagram followers without paying sketchy websites for that. I can just encourage people to go the classic and safe way!

This website needs to be shut down. I earned $70 in commission payouts and they have not paid me. I have contacted them over 25 times over the course of the past two months and they WILL NOT ANSWER MY EMAILS. Furthermore, my accounts aren’t even running anymore and THEY WON’T CANCEL MY ACCOUNT SO IT KEEPS CHARGING ME! I HAVE ASKED FOR THEM TO CANCEL AND REFUND MANY TIMES AND THEY STILL WONT ANSWER.
